Slewfoot has always had great respect among musicians and songwriters wherever he hung his hat. Over the past five years our paths seemed to cross more often and Slew really dug what I was doing with the Music Maker Relief Foundation.
One day I opened a package of cassettes that Slew sent me. These were live shows he recorded of Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Big Boy Henry and one curiously beat up, cheap cassette he recorded of his own tunes. I popped it in my cassette deck and to my surprise was completely awestruck by the power, emotion and stellar songwriting propelled by Slew's truly underground American voice. I was instantly convinced that Slew was one of our country's most important singer songwriters. Big Boy Henry had told me this years ago, I wondered why it took me so long to get it.
I called up my friend and encouraged him to record his songs. Soon after Slew got into a studio down in New Orleans and produced this CD. To my amazement he presented it to me to release under Music Maker Recordings in hope that it would help us raise some money and awareness for MMRF.
This is definitely something different for us. Known to few, Slew truly is a hero of Southern music, whose talent has been recognized by traditional blues artists in the South for decades. -Tim Duffy
