Darrell Babbitt, singer/songwriter from Boise, Idaho has sung for many local functions and has appeared in many local stage productions.
He first sang in a small town in Iowa - Arispe - at the high school at the age of five.
In high school at Cascade, Id., he sang with a boy's trio. Appearing in Donnelly, McCall, etc., and vocalized with a Boise orchestra at the Cascade Senior Ball.
His first semi-professional experience was guesting with Don Eagle and the Eaglets at the roof of the Ridpath in Spokane in 1959. Since then Darrell has sung with many piano players, trios and groups up to 18 pieces in front of audiences of 20 people, up to 1100 at Julia Davis Park for a non-commissioned officer's picnic, and even 11,000 for a pre-fireworks program at Bronco Stadium.
While traveling with the Chamber of Commerce of USA, Darrell sang in Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, Seattle, Wa., Portland, Or., Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, San Diego and at the La Fayette Hotel, (a Hilton) in Long Beach, California.
Musicians he has worked with include Gene Harris, Gib Hochstrasser, Don Eagle, Bill Liday, (Pocatello), Joe Macarillo (Sun Valley, Tor Heyerdahl (Sun Valley), Overton Berry (Seattle), Doug Swanson (Oklahoma), Floyd May (Caldwell), and Jack Lightfoot, Boise.
Stage productions include Showboat, The Fantastics, Roman Candle, Hello Dolly, Desperate Hours, Carmen, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, God's Favorite, Music Man and Hello Dolly (the second time).
Darrell has sung many times with Gene Harris at Peter Schotts'. A few years ago he knocked them dead at the Mark IV Lounge in Moscow, Id. He sang his own song "If I Were A King" with Gib Hochstrasser's King of Swing orchestra at the opening of the Convention Center, the Idaho Centennial Ball and at the opening of the musical summer series at the St. Chappelle's Winery in Caldwell.
