the chrome daddies
the chrome daddies were formed in late '98 with only 3 members. this consisted of guitar (doug), double bass (jon) and drums (geoff). the players all came from past rockabilly bands such as the jaguars, the slingshots and lonesome junior.
the guys played around brisbane for a few months playing nothing but rockabilly under the name of the v8 vagabonds, until an addition of another guitarist (dave) allowed doug to move onto steel guitar. this transition was the start of a new sound which included western swing, blues and alternate country.
with the new line-up, the band was no longer just a straight down the line rockabilly band, so a name change was ordered and the chrome daddies were born.
shortly after playing to many new crowds, the band popularity began to swell. the chrome daddies appealed to preston records in melbourne and were quickly signed to record an album. losing dave from guitar and adding stuart, the band released their debut, self titled album. this album is distributed and sold now on cdbaby. the album was warmly embraced by the european audiences as well as the australian audiences. now we are takin' the us by storm.
the band was fast becoming one of the most popular roots acts in australia and a national tour was put together to launch the new cd in every capital city of australia. this tour proved very successful to the point of the band being invited to play on the bill of most of australia's leading roots festivals.
in mid 2001, more line-up changes were to occur. jon was to be replaced by double bassist extaordinaire, antonio chico lopez.
now with a new bass man, the chrome daddies were ready to record a 2nd album. this album was a more contemporary recording which some say has a more country flavor to it. sure, it may have, but there is no denying the kickass tracks really move with that same 'rootsy' feel.
the album, titled 'who's your daddies?' has been selling like hot cakes in australia and is distributed through cd baby too...
due to family commitments, stuart was to leave the band in mid 2002. this was unfortunate, but as fate would have it, peter edwards, a renown australian gutarist, put his hand up for the job.
the band plan to entice american audiences off their seats with their electrifying mix of rockabilly/western swing/alternate country&blues.
