Spottiswoode's UGLY LOVE is fast becoming a cult classic. Poppy and brooding at the same time, UGLY LOVE has been celebrated by critics around the country.

The New Yorker calls Spottiswoode "a genius." The Washington Post describes the cd as "beautiful". "Gorgeous" exclaims North Carolina's Creative Loafing. "Reminiscent of the moodiest material by Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits," states Athens' Flagpole Magazine. "Low and slinky with mood galore," says The Charlotte Observer.

UGLY LOVE travels a continent of moods and sonic textures. Peter Fox's production combines such colors as accordion, strings, bouzouki, horns, gospel vocals and lap steel guitar. Yet the record remains spare. Front and center is Spottiswoode's "deep, rough-hewn voice" (New Yorker), and his direct lyrical style.

The first two tracks were recently included in TART, starring Dominique Swain, Brad Renfro & Melanie Griffith.
