Moonraker is a rock band based in Brooklyn, NY. The band
originated in Boston, when two film students, David Moltz and
Kody Akhavi, and their roommate, drummer Dan Mintzer, began
experimenting with electronic music. They were joined by Kelli
Scarr and Dan Chen, and immediately a strong connection was
formed between the five of them. Musically, the band has never
been easily categorized. Their sound has been described as
electronic rock and experimental dance rock; they have been
compared to Björk, Portishead, Stereolab, early U2 and the Police.
Over the last two years Moonraker has performed alongside
Metric, Elefant, The Stars, Ambulance LTD, and Broken Social
Scene, developing a faithful fan base in the Northeast. The band
won WBOS' Best New Band in Boston [in 2001], they receive
regular airplay on college and satellite radio, and recently they
were awarded Best New Band at the 2003 Boston Music Awards.
Their debut LP Nada Brahma sold 5,000 copies independently,
and their self-titled 2003 release, out on Immergent Records,
has sold over 1000 copies to date.
