In the early 1990's Company H, 119th NYSV Historical Association began a field music program as part of its efforts to preserve the history of the American Civil War. Seeking experienced instruction in an effort to assume a quality portrayal of the Civil War field musician the 119th was able to procure the services of two highly qualified and enthusiastic instructors in 2001, lead drummer, Jason Maines, and principal musician Joe Korber. In the two years that followed a functioning field music program with over two dozen members resulted. The 119th NYSV Field Music plays on the march, in addition to performing all the camp duties for Company H, 119th NYSV, the "Willis Company". The music on this recording combines both the daily camp calls of the regiment and the music played on the march. We hope you will enjoy it.
This recording is dedicated with thanks to the original field musicians of the 119th NYSV. They bravely put on the blue uniform and marched off to war to preserve the Union, armed with nothing more than fife, drum and bugle.
