ANDANZAS
Alan del Castillo (percussion, guitar, vocals)
Miguel Ulises Jimenez (winds, percussion, vocals)
Cynthia Price-Glynn (harp)

ANDANZAS, Spanish for "wanderings," describes the trio's repertory-a musical wandering through Latin America. Moving from traditional dance rhythms to contemporary ballads, from intricate instrumental pieces to hauntingly beautiful love songs, the music of Andanzas comes from both the folk songs of Latin America (a blend of Indian, Spanish, and African influences) and contemporary Latin American composers writing in traditional styles.

The arrangements combine both popular and classical elements, reflecting the backgrounds of the performers. Their sounds and style are unique and reveal a subtlety and an intimacy that go well beyond many preconceptions of Latin music.

Instruments used by ANDANZAS:
KENA a cane flute of the Incas

SAMPONA pan-pipes of the Andes

OCARINA spherical clay flute of pre-Columbian times

CHARANGO a miniature version of the guitar, usually made from the shell of an armadillo and found in many Andean countries

CUATRO a four-stringed guitar-shaped instrument from Venezuela

SPANISH GUITAR

HARP prominent in Latin American folk music since the 17th century
