Jake Savona is one of Australia's leading hip-hop and reggae producers and performers, and 2004 sees the completion of his second solo album and strongest production to date, the worldclass 'Invasion Day'. Featuring some of Melbourne's finest vocalists and instrumentalists - including TZU, Diafrix, Little G, Havoc, Rootbound System, Ptero-Stylus and more - this is one of the most ambitious, original and exciting Australian releases in years, and is sure set a benchmark in Australia's musical output.
BIOGRAPHY
Jake began learning classical piano at the age of six, and later studied music and composition at the Melbourne Conservitorium between 1995 and1999, including a 6 month scholarship in the UK. Between 1996 and 1999 Jake performed and recorded with numerous groups including the highly successful Melbourne outfit 'Pan' (later to become 'TZU'), releasing two albums 'Can You Dig It?' and 'Gratitude-A-Tron'.
In 2000 Jake returned from a second trip to the UK and began building his own studio, and soon completed his first solo album 'Bass & Roots', independently released and distributed by Sydney label Didgeridoo Records (check out didgerecords.com). The album received high rotation on Australian radio, and one of the tracks has been selected for a forthcoming BMG-released compilation album. Following the release of 'Bass & Roots' Jake's reputation as one of Melbourne's leading reggae musicians and electronic music producers was consolidated, and demand for his talents as a session musician increased. Jake currently performs / records with Rootbound System, Lo - Boy, Cagey Minstrels, Illzilla, Fat Logic, and occasionally Frank Yamma (NT), Coloured Stone (SA), Kerianne Cox (WA), TZU, Diafrix, Little G and Irie as well as doing solo shows. Recent Australian performance highlights include Woodford, Apollo Bay, Port Fairy, Byron Bay and tours of Victoria and NSW.
After 6 months of solid studio work Jake has completed his second solo album 'Invasion Day' under his producer name 'Mista Savona'. As well as promoting the album and supporting it with live shows, Jake is travelling to Jamaica in July this year to spend a month recording with Jamaican vocalists, and plans to release several releases next year including a 'Melbourne Meet Kingston' compilation CD, the first ever collaboration between Australian and Jamaican musicians. A prolific and consistent writer, Jake's music is original, exciting, internationally orientated and his albums are something to watch out for.
