Bio & Reviews

Paulwall & Chamillion made a name for their selves at an early age. While still in highschool, they worked promotions for such labels as No Limit Records, DefJam Records, and Cash Money Records. Under the tutalige of 5-4, Ace, and Smoo G, Paulwall & Chamillion learned the marketing and promotions game EXTREMELY well. Many believe this is much of the reason for their extraordinary success. Promotions is what introduced Paulwall & Chamillion to Michael Watts and Ron C of the Swisha House. Michael Watts knew of Paulwall & Chamillion's hard work ethics. One late night in March 2000, during a promotions meeting with Michael Watts, Paulwall & Chamillion brought up the option of recording an Intro Freestyle for Michael Watts' Radio Show he had each evening on KBXX 97.9 THE BOX in Houston. Michael Watts liked the Intro so much, that he decided to add it as a freestyle on his latest SWISHA HOUSE MIX CD. The public response was outrageous! Before you knew it, Paulwall & Chamillion were on EVERY cd that Michael Watts and OG Ron C released! When Slim Thugg eventually broke off and started making his own mix cds, Paulwall & Chamillion added their talent as well. Paulwall was featured on the very first Boss Hogg Outlaws release, which was entitled "COMING OUT HARD". Both Paulwall and Chamillion were both featured on many and most of the BOSS HOGG OUTLAWS' cd releases, which eventually inspired them to branch off and begin production of their own Mix Cds under the name the "COLOR CHANGING CLICK" The COLOR CHANGING CLICK is made up of Paulwall, Chamillion, and 50/50. Lew Hawk is also a member, though he is not a rapper. He is the fly cat that you hear spitting out funny catch phrases. On the C.C.C. cds, Paulwall is the DJ that chopps up and mixes the songs. Under the teachings of the Legendary OG Ron C, Paulwall has become an extremely talented DJ, who can definitely hold his own. PAULWALL & CHAMILLIONAIRE both signed to Paid In Full Records in August of 2001. They immediately began intensive work on their first album "Get Ya Mind Correct!" Paid In Full Records is also the home of Mista Madd, OG Ron C, and Sabwarfare.......Despite many rumors in the streets, Paulwall & Chamillion both are still affiliated and represent the SWISHA HOUSE.

YO: Wall & Chamillionaire Get Yo' Minds Correct.

The themes of hip-hop today seem to be getting less and less original. Whether this trend is shown through the repeated use of old beats by labels such as Murder Inc. or complete and shameless remakes of entire songs, such as Jay-Z's "'03 Bonnie and Clyde," the chance to get a fresh breath of air in a track is becoming increasingly rare. This trend is seemingly broken with the release of Paul Wall and Chamillionaire's latest album, Get Yo Mind Correct.

Hailing from Texas, the duo leads the Texas' Color Changing Click and is an integral part of Houston's Swishahouse. While not straying far from the usual Texas subject matter of materialism and bragging, the difference between Paul Wall and Chamillionaire and the rest is the clever wordplay that they bring to seemingly familiar subjects. This strength coupled with strong production makes Get Yo Mind Correct one of the few recent hip-hop efforts that is easily playable from the beginning to the end. Interestingly enough, the duo is one of the few successful interracial groups in hip-hop. Paul Wall easily escapes the many stereotypes of white rappers while also challenging his partner Chamillionaire as the best rapper on each track.

Led off by the song "My Money Gets Jealous," Get Yo Mind Correct starts at a fast pace and refuses to let up. "No rose petals, no candlelight / If you wanna see a G / Don't ask me, go ask Vanna White," Chamillionaire raps to an up-tempo beat. While they don't deal with the most unique of subjects, the lyrics used in describing familiar ideas make the listener rewind nearly every song to catch the clever lines laced in the verses.

Continuing with the materialistic theme is the bouncy "Thinkin' Thoed." Paul Wall begins the song rapping "To tell you the truth, Chamillionaire's better than me / His flip-flop shines a little bit wetter than me / But it don't matter, we're both on the same team / I'm thinkin' thoed and I know he think the same thing." Chamillionaire picks up for the next verse complimenting Paul Wall's style rapping, "I'm thinkin' the rims get any bigger under the coupe / Then I'ma have to jump out the coupe with a parachute."

Switching up the pace, the duo moves on to the track "Game Over," discussing their female situations. Chamillionaire drops more quotable lines on the song, rhyming "Listen, the same women always claimin' that they independent / Be the same ones starin at the diamonds in the pendant." Paul Wall picks up, addressing a male fan, rhyming "Cause while you all hot callin' your ex cursin' / Me and your ex getting hot in back of an Excursion."

Paul Wall and Chamillionaire make no claims about being the most complete rappers, and should not have to. The quality that they bring to the table and their clever wordplay about everyday issues is significant enough to distance them from any others with similar subjects. Buoyed with other strong tracks such as "I Wanna Get," "Falsifying," and "Play Dirty," Get Yo Mind Correct accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do, and better than nearly any other release this year.

Paul Wall & Chamillionaire "Get Ya Mind Correct"

After a long break I decided to come back and review the album which hasn't stopped banging in my trunk for the entire summer. Swishahouse headliners, Chamillionaire and Paul Wall, may not have the broadest subject matter to speak on since lyrics usually don't stray far from the realm of money and poppin trunks. It is easy to see past those things because when you take into account unreal wordplay and down right sick lyrics like, "Could you see a Bentley parked in the crunkest spot of your hood?/candy coat on top of the hood/and my fist on top of the wood" The talent of these Houston boys is through the roof and hearing them feed off each other so perfectly has suprised me. I always knew from various tapes and freestyles that they will wreck the mic with jaw dropping flows but what I didn't expect was the bangin beats and well crafted songs to end up making this album hotter than H-Town summers.

"My Money Gets Jealous" and "N Love With My Money" are testaments to Texas ballin'. The arrogance and wordplay of their lyrics is evident in bar after bar like when Paul Wall breaks you off with, "You girl stutta when I pull up next to ya/you been with the girl six months/Paul Wall the reason she won't give sex to ya." The choruses are so sick your head won't stop rockin and your first couple times to hear these songs you may find yourself saying "damn he didn't just say what I think he did, did he?" the answer is yes so turn the shit up.

"Thinkin Thoed" is another bangin track filled with sick rhymes and basslines that hit in places you didn't know you had ears. Chamillion's lyrics on this track will turn a casual listen into your favorite song oozing out of your speakers when he tells ya shit like, "Knock knock, who is it?/Mr. hear lizard lizard/got 23's like we whatchin them Washington Wizards/I'm thinkin, pullin so many cars out the garage/that the city will build a freeway that enter my yard."

"Falsifying" is a personal favorite and it seems to follow the same pattern as the other songs mentioned because it flows together so perfectly that you can't help but love it. Paul Wall goes off hard when he drops it like, "Tomarrow your stuck/your rims cost more than your truck/means you a baller but you always wanna barrow a buck." This song has another bangin chorus and I just can't stop listening to it. It is very hard to select tracks that might be possible skips since every beat will blow the fucking roof off but there are tracks that may not become favorites right away.

"U Owe Me" and the skits are really the only tracks I skip and maybe a few others and most of the time "U Owe Me" fits in to the mix pretty well. "The Other Day", "Game Over," and "So Grind" are all tight tracks that have the same pattern as the rest of the album and the all go off pretty hard. Song after song this album just keeps you wanting more and it keeps coming.

"I Wanna Get" is definitely one of the illest tracks on the album. Chamillion wrecks hard on this song and tears up the chorus. This album actually had very few guest spots and 13 songs, all of which are impressive.

This album gave me everything I wanted and much more. Since I have always been partial to The Screwed Up Click and have always thought that they have more polished styles, I was proven wrong when I thought they couldn't successfully crossover from mixtapes to putting out ill albums like S.U.C. members have done. The subject matter is the only real downfall of the album cause you hear most of the same shit on every song but the wordplay, beats, and the way everything comes together really makes up for it. No doubt one of the best albums I have heard all year. Peace.
