AquaVenus is a female bassist, vocalist described as Sade meets Sting, and multi-instrumentalist Hollow Reed, who plays guitar, piano, congas and sings. The arrangements are dynamic and vivid in effect, the songs are memorable and stay with you.
It’s original Pop-Rock with a Latin flair. AquaVenus’ silky female vocals on songs like “Don’t Be Down†evoke the care-free Caribbean tropics. While “Innocent Blood†rocks to the compelling love story of Misenga, a woman caught between true love and injustice.
Male vocals ride the edge in other songs like “Intimidation†with its aggressive funk-rock bass and rock-beat. “A Letter to the President†is a rockin’ tongue-in-cheek socio-political commentary tempered with a fun reggae feel. Interesting.
The band could expand from an acoustic duo to a five-piece, and their debut disc features plenty of rythmic layers and up-tempo beats. Story lines and melody lines shine.
