Composed between 1996 and October 1997 in Normandy, France, this CD is the result of introspection and isolation. It is an attempt at austerity. The combined titles of the pieces constitute a poem. The inside cover contains text reflecting on illusion and death. Recorded in 1997 and released in 1999.

A journey of nostalgic, melancholic sonic contemplation performed on the solo piano that seeks to unmask the subconscious -- and expand the spiritual and mental boundaries of the listener.

New Age

American-Armenian Aret Madilian is an x member of the LA based progressive band WOG -- once chosen the best unsigned LA band on KROQ. His solo piano albums are quite different in style yet not so different in mood. After years of electronic music, he fufills a need for introspection through acoustic piano work. His solo effort is journey of nostalgic, melancholic sonic contemplation that seeks to unmask the subconscious -- and expand the spiritual and mental boundaries of the listener.

An American of Armenian origin, Aret Madilian first started experimenting on the family piano at the age of 15. Self-thought, he acquired his first experience on stage, as a keyboard player of a Los Angeles based duo when he was 18. An album followed in 1988. during this same year, he felt drawn to France and its culture and decided to spend time in Paris. With time, he turned to composition. In 1996, at the age of 32, MASK: Pieces for Piano was released on Garni music, a record label in Los Angeles. MASK is his debut solo recording. During his next visit to France, he discovered a region of Normandy: le pays de Caux. There he composed his entire second album, ILLUSION: Pieces for Piano. Madilian on his music: "I would like my music to be the messenger of my Armenian culture and of the thoughts and feelings that I cannot express with words. "The simple observation of life is to me an inexhaustible source. There are also certain moments shared with others or family...the force and the intimacy of human relations have probably motivated some of my compositions...there's also a time period, a mood, the beginning of this century in France...Dostoievski and Nietzsche...."
