Melinda was born in Laval, Quebec and is a Dual Citizen (Canadian & US). At the age of 5, Melinda and her parents went to a family reunion where her grandfather would perform. She saw her grandfather tap dance on stage and asked her mother if she could join. Once on stage she followed every step her grandfather did to everyone’s amazement.
Since then she loved to dance. At the age of 8, Melinda moved to Fort Lauderdale with her father Jeffrey Yellen who is an American. Melinda started to have dreams of modeling. She performed for friends and family for fun, singing to songs from Madonna “Like a Virgin†and would dance with her friends to make it look like a live show. This was Melinda’s dream, to sing in front of an audience.
At the age of 13 her mother, Linda Racine, gave Melinda the opportunity to professionally model for 2 months. Melinda was told she had great potential to model or to sing. Her talents would take her in whatever direction she chose. Melinda also performed in front of 500 people at the “Three Fountains Roller Skating†to the song by Michael Jackson “Keep it in the closetâ€. Everyone was awestruck at her singing and dancing talent.
Melinda and her mother moved back to Quebec in 1993 when she went back into modeling, but it did not satisfy her desire to sing and dance. In the year 2000 when Melinda sang and recorded herself on a Karaoke machine for her mother to listen to. She sang to Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and the Back Street Boys. Melinda then wrote and composed her own songs with her mother encouraging her talent. This finally brought her to Dance Plant Records Inc. who signed her with no hesitation.
