Aiko Shimada is a Tokyo-born, Seattle-based guitarist/singer/songwriter. Listeners and critics often try to describe her music, but fail to come up with a particular genre. Depending on who describes it, it's placed under anywhere from folk, jazz, pop/rock, world, to experimental music. Though, it's always described as beautiful.

Aiko has released several CDs in the past, and each one has its unique sound. The 2001 release, "Blue Marble", was produced by composer/multi-instrumentalist, Eyvind Kang, and an engineer, Evan Schiller. Kang, who had collaborated with Aiko in the past, decided to take a different approach to show another face of Aiko's music. From noise to string orchestra, drum machine to toy piano, the CD is ethereal, surreal, and beautiful. Please check out the sound clips, and see why it is so. Aiko sings all the songs in Japanese on this CD.
