Carridine began his singing career at a political rally in Sacramento, singing from the back of a pickup, Tom Dooley and Kingston Trio songs (very popular back then) and his own creation for The Challenger.
The Incumbent won. But Carridine's career was launched, and he continued his downhill march from there, singing in restaurants and streetcorners from San Francisco to Vermont, from Carmel to Klamath, from Seoul to Bangkok, with stops in between.
Paying his dues as an entertainer, he learned that songs are fine, but witty repartee with the people in the audience is a darn sight more fun! Carridine also learned early that people in the crowd can have a LOT more info that he had, on a LOT more subjects... humility helps, even for the stand-up comic!
Carridine doesn't always set out to 'be funny', but just by looking at some of today's bizarre happenings he brings smile after smile to the hearts of listeners! Living the expatriate life of an American overseas, he brings a poignant insight to what it is to be an American, as he walks politely but purposefully through subjects as diverse as 'racism', 'war', 'church folks', 'white folks' and 'mixed-blood children.'
First-hand experience can be a powerful teacher, and Carridine has had more years outside continental US than inside, but he 'left his heart, in San Francisco... high on a hill, it calls to me...'
Born in the City by the Bay in 1946, Carridine has a mellow, timeless humor sure to please and perplex, by turns, as he dances with subjects of interest across all age-groups.
Drawing on his experiences with The Mountain Men of KangHwa Island, Korea (just south of the North Korean border, ON the DMZ) Carridine relates experiences we can all relate to, but which most members of America's armed forces didn't experience, because most were not assigned to the shadowy, spooky Army Security Agency! Sorry, if he told you more, he'd hafta kill you, so just buy it and pick up on some of the inside jokes and all-too-human happenings...
Maybe you can't throw electronic tomatoes, but you can join with the cheers, tears and peers while peering at Carridine!
