'Eden Mi Qedem is a Jerusalem-based band whose name is inspired by the biblical verse: “And YHWH God planted a garden in 'Eden from the East ("‘eden mi qedem") , and placed there the human that He had formed.” (Genesis 2:8) The term ‘eden mi qedem in Hebrew, or 'aden min qadeem in Arabic, can also be translated as "Eden from ancient times." This ancient garden of the East speaks of a time and place of equilibrium and harmony. For many people of the world, the Garden of Eden has been the quintessential symbol for the ideal state of existence, that we seek to return to. This album brings together some of Israel's most prominent musicians, Jewish and Arab, and strives to connect us to that place of our ancient origins; to a place of harmony. The lyrics, which are in Hebrew, Arabic and English, are based on original poems as well as sacred texts, and wed spiritual themes and poetry to highly danceable music.

BIO (of founder/singer/composer):
Samuel grew up listening to and playing the psychedelic 60/70s Rock of the West. Nevertheless, many years ago in Southern Egypt when he first heard the popular local singer 'Ahmad Adawiyya's music, he was amazed at how familiar it felt and how so many elements were indeed akin to the music of his youth: He became an instant fan. Since then, he has continued on to study with local masters of Classical Middle Eastern music and singing in Jerusalem, and in his own music has succeeded in synthesizing that tradition with Western Rock/Pop elements and modern beats, creating an exciting genre breaking sound.
